5 Simple Steps To Command Your Day

Don’t allow the fear of making the wrong decision prevent your decision. No decision is the wrong decision. ~Shaun Mahoney

The longer you live the more life changing decisions you will make along the way. Every decision we make shapes our reality. Our decisions shape our present and our future. Who we are as a person is a direct reflection of the decisions we make. This is especially true when you are running our own business. For many the problem is knowing they have reached the point when a final decision needs to be made.  For others the challenge is actually making a decision. Taking command of your day involves making decisions before your day even starts. Commanding your day establishes what’s important and necessary for you and your business. If you don’t control your day, things can quickly go a rye and your day will control you.

Indecisiveness stalls your progress, keeps you from growth and moving on to bigger things.  Successful entrepreneurs have learned not to make critical decisions based on emotion. Good decisions result from critical thinking. Analyze the situation, make the decision, and take action with confidence in your decision-making.  The ability to focus your thinking to get the results you want is a key entrepreneurial skill.  The ability to command your day creates order, saves time and is a major key to a successful productive day.

Here are five simple steps to start commanding your day:

       1.  Gives answers don’t invite questions

The best way to command your day is to first speak to it.  Imagine situations that may come up throughout the day and have solutions already prepared.  Have confidence in yourself and know that any problems that arise will be addressed and conquered. Spend a few moments before your day starts building your attitude for the day. Remind yourself of why you are doing what you do and what it’s going to take to get you to the next level.

      2.  Make a to-do list with a deadline for each item

Just because you make a to-do list doesn’t mean you are now in control. Adding a start and finish time for each item on your list gives you a goal and guarantees completion. Make a commitment to complete a task before moving on to the next one. Your day shouldn’t be a guessing game. but a well thought out plan that moves your business closer to success.

     3.  Don’t answer email or phone messages until your to do list is complete

Answering email or phone messages first thing in the morning causes you to lose the first half of your day.  It’s always good to check email and messages in the morning and respond to important or urgent request, but don’t get trapped into spending all morning responding to other people’s need that can wait. Mark unimportant emails and messages to respond to later in the day. You are responsible for what gets done for you and your business.

     4.  Use technology to your advantage

Be sure your office is equipped with technology that helps you to be the most efficient and effective you can be.  Streamline your workspace as much as you can. It is difficult to command your day when your space is in chaos.  A tech-savvy workspace helps you communicate with clients/customers more effectively and access important information quickly.

    5.   Prepare for the next day

You have completed another productive day, this is a good thing.  Taking a few moments to prepare for tomorrow is a great thing.  By making a few mental or physical notes you can get a jump-start on what items you will focus on.  Mentally as you wind your day down, simultaneously you can build your next day up. Start professing success and it will be sure to meet you the next morning.
